Well that and bodysuits. Alabama summers are such that you don't want to be involved with clothing alone, much less anything complicated. I've opted for simple designs that don't require fancy closures or much ado. That led me to designing my latest blouse.<br />
<br />
My local mom-and-pop sew/vac shop was having a sale on fabric, and I happened to wander into there in the final day of the sale. I had purchased some African prints from the shop before and found they had even more and they were 50% off. I ended up purchasing a couple of yards of several prints.<br />

<br />
Of these beautiful prints, I found this magnificent batik print cotton. It was so thin and crisp and vibrant that I had to bring it home. Initially, I was only thinking of making an accessory with it. However the more I looked at it I realized that I had some burnt orange colored shorts that this would paired excellently with. <br />
<br />
I also knew that I wanted to give this shirt a little more visual interest, so I decided to play up the sleeves, make a tassel for the zip closure, and make a decorative hem.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I drafted a simple boxy midriff top, experimented with sleeve draping, and came up with this geometric shape that can be worn in several different ways. I added a scoop neckline, which is not something I typically wear. I also added a zipper to the back. It wasn't necessary; however I wanted to add the tassel, and I hate the hassle of getting makeup on EVERY.SINGLE.THING that I wear. So the zipper opening will help with ease of use. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I bought a bunch of crochet spools awhile ago, though I don't crochet at all. I forget my original intent, but the thread does wonderfully for all sorts of sewing needs. I purchased several colors when Hobby Lobby had a sale on them. At any rate, I used it and a few jewelry findings and beads to fashion myself a tassel for the back. I think it complements the look fairly well.</div>

To tie it all together (no pun intended,) I used the same crochet thread in my overlocker/serger and finished the hems. I've used crochet thread to finish this way for several garments, and it never disappoints me. It gives a hand finished look without actually having to go through the trouble of spending hours looking up tutorials. I also feel that it enhances the print on the fabric as well.</div>

Do you ever go through spells where you're really into something for a couple of days or couple of weeks and then totally into something else for a span of time? That's pretty much my life, and I can't determine whether it's from a short attention span or some way to not get burned out on something I love. Either way it goes, I have been completely in love with making patches and swimwear here lately.</div>
<div>
I think because we are <strike>in the thick of,</strike> I mean, approaching summertime here all I can think about are fun, bright things and swimsuits...so that's literally all I have been making. I have actually been working on patches for a long time now, and I decided that I would finally place some in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/createbylani" target="_blank">shop</a>. Not all of the ones in the photo are available yet for purchase. I still have some fidgeting to do with them. But pop on <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/createbylani" target="_blank">over</a> and take a look. I will post more on my design process later.</div>

<br />
<br />
Hi lovelies!<br />
<br />
I know I have been missing for so long, and there really isn't much of an excuse aside from being incredible busy with school. Speaking of which I graduated last year with my Bachelor's and started this year on my Master's. So there is tons to talk about, but that will have to wait because today I have a tutorial for you.<br />
<br />
So lately (as in the past couple of months) I have been heavily into makeup. I think my bank account, Ulta, and Sephora accounts can vouch for that! My weakness, admittedly, are palettes and minis. (I mean who can't pass up a tiny version of a makeup favorite??) I do have a few cumbersome singles floating about. I typically didn't have an issue with them...that was until I was trying to organize all my makeup into a more streamlined fashion and realized that they are just awkwardly in the way.<br />
<br />
Cue the lightbulb! I figured that I have enough materials to make myself a Z-palette knock-off. What a great way to recycle the Ulta and Sephora boxes that somehow find themselves at my doorstep weekly (no judging, okay?) and to reduce the bulk of having many little cosmetic holders all over my tiny apartment bathroom. <br />
<br />
If you'd like to see how I made mine, stick around after the jump!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjeRsjpDojLO44P34JBC8_k5iuO6BXKnpdcv5mTTVFlnZDL89m8gpZnCIJ5NKYAHE-d63oqM6m28fIXlPZo3K8w7POWjwvcM1KUERpD5ea7T0Sb-Wn_l1xD5AkRncyM1BVkblebL8LosI/s1600/SAM_2199.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="717" data-original-width="994" height="459" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjeRsjpDojLO44P34JBC8_k5iuO6BXKnpdcv5mTTVFlnZDL89m8gpZnCIJ5NKYAHE-d63oqM6m28fIXlPZo3K8w7POWjwvcM1KUERpD5ea7T0Sb-Wn_l1xD5AkRncyM1BVkblebL8LosI/s640/SAM_2199.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Materials Needed:<br />
<ul>
<li>4-5 pieces of cardboard roughly the same size (I used 2 pieces that were thinner than the rest)</li>
<li>1 piece of cardboard the same length as the bigger pieces but smaller width</li>
<li>1 large magnet sheet</li>
<li>2 smaller strong magnets or 1 small strong magnet and 1 small metal sheet/pad</li>
<li>3-4 pieces of large scrapbook paper (similarly can use contact paper)</li>
<li>Clear vinyl, sheet of acetate/transparency film, or sheet protector (not shown)</li>
<li>Modge-podge, masking tape, spray adhesive, E-6000, and/or hot glue (I used all.)</li>
<li>Cutters (X-acto knife and paper scissors)</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I wanted my palette to be a little on the bigger side, so I made mine roughly 10" by 7". I intended to use some contact paper also by it completely slipped by mind, and I didn't want to use the one I had at home. So I stopped by Hobby Lobby and purchased <a href="http://www.hobbylobby.com/Scrapbook-Paper-Crafts/Paper-Cardstock/Printed-Paper-Single-Sheets/Rose-with-Black-Background-Scrapbook-Paper---12-x-12/p/VD9061-80777964" target="_blank">this gorgeous paper</a>.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLAZJli52Gbv1VHGlVYJfqXjLEunnDcmeRffmrA28Q-zNe98FIfS0BA1vZWAvRSqS_jVz-zWo8gaBmAAYXZKLMTyUlDPeZb1MX65aFZTPrR7RE0JJ-khimENK_suunkb3kMskFLZFEKYI/s1600/SAM_2206.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="624" data-original-width="874" height="456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLAZJli52Gbv1VHGlVYJfqXjLEunnDcmeRffmrA28Q-zNe98FIfS0BA1vZWAvRSqS_jVz-zWo8gaBmAAYXZKLMTyUlDPeZb1MX65aFZTPrR7RE0JJ-khimENK_suunkb3kMskFLZFEKYI/s640/SAM_2206.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. I took one of my thinner pieces (which I used as the covers) and measured in 1 inch from all sides, drew a rectangle and trimmed it away. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2. Similarly, I took 2 pieces of cardboard and measured 3/4" from each edge and repeated the process. I only used 2 pieces because I felt this was deep enough for my makeup pots. However feel the need to use another piece of cardboard if needed.</div>
<div>
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfK1tJK4J5wxqjI5rdhiUI8CNxoJ2BOqRgyPaC6430-7yRqGTTIKfEvmiC2oIJ8sdH7sAsNhM0zXMe0wTAZOwqNWS4BOjVC4i2hbdjHrqolUc1DMWYYCTiYioreCSN0WGLJxg3Cuvvzco/s1600/SAM_2207.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="412" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfK1tJK4J5wxqjI5rdhiUI8CNxoJ2BOqRgyPaC6430-7yRqGTTIKfEvmiC2oIJ8sdH7sAsNhM0zXMe0wTAZOwqNWS4BOjVC4i2hbdjHrqolUc1DMWYYCTiYioreCSN0WGLJxg3Cuvvzco/s400/SAM_2207.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div>
3. Stack up your bottom piece and the 2 pieces that you cut in #2 and measure how deep they are. You will need this measurement to make the spine (the smaller piece to the right.) Trim the spine from the smaller piece of card board that is left.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>

7. Now it's time to make the magnetic closure: Adhere your 2 center pieces together, one on top of the other. Determine which side you want facing outward and upward. On the right side in the center, mark the shape of your small magnet and start to chisel away at the cardboard until your magnet nestles flush with the cardboard and glue it in. </div>

8. Mark your middle piece similarly to your top piece, marking 1 inch from all edges and tracing the center. Draw a large X in the center where the window is. Clip the outermost corners and cut the lines of the inner X. Make sure to score your lines to make it easier to fold.<br />

9. I'm not sure why I don't have a photo of the process, but lay your center piece on top of its respective piece of paper and fold the outer corner toward the bottom. You can use Modge Podge or spray adhesive or whatever glue you have that works well. Then push through the X and wrap through the center toward the bottom and trim the excess. At this point you can leave the magnet covered or trim it out. I left it visible for the tutorial and later covered it over again. (<b>You will see this a little more clearly in #11.</b>)<br />

10. Let's cover the bottom and add the magnet sheet. Take the sheet of scrapbook paper designated for the bottom and score the edges. Clip out the corners and glue down one side (the side that will face the spine.) Lay down your bottom and wrap the remaining edges and adhere. Trim your magnet sheet to cover the bottom and glue it down.<br />

11. In the top part you will need to position a magnet out the outward facing lip in the center making sure that the polarity doesn't match that of the magnet in the center. Similarly you can use a metal bar here if you'd like. I ended up using a the base of a ring pad from a ring blank I had. Embed it in the cardboard as before. This piece will incorporate bits from the past few steps. Score the sides, clip corners, and glue down the side that will correspond to the spine. Cut the inner X that was drawn before. Adhere to frame work and wrap the outer edges first toward the inside, then wrap the window toward the inside and trim to match. Cover the inside of the spine with paper now.<br />

13. After your box dries, cut a piece of plastic 1/2" bigger on all sides than the window. I used clear vinyl because that's what I had readily available. You could also use transparency film, plastic from clamshell packaging, or sheet protectors. Glue it to the inside of the window.<br />

Disclaimer: I'm sure there may be other ways and methods to making this, however, I wanted to use materials mostly found in my home. I would change a couple of things for next time: not forgetting to get contact paper (haha!), using E-6000 only instead of spray adhesive as well, using plastic sheeting instead of clear vinyl, and using foam core board for the inside rather than cardboard. Other than that, I wouldn't tweak it very much.<br />
<br />
I hope you enjoyed the tutorial. I really enjoyed making it. Hopefully I will be back really soon with new updates and look into the things that I have accomplished while in my undergrad program. Oddly enough, I several drafts from the past couple of years that I just have not submitted. Hopefully I can get those completed and edited and submitted.<br />
<br />
Thank you so much for stopping by. Please do let me know if you make one of these. I would love to see it!!!<br />

I have been meaning to get this posted for nearly a week now. I have been having issues with my newest computer. At any rate, I made a selection of pencil pouches and listed them in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/239030356/make-something-embroidered-pencil-pouch?ref=shop_home_active_1" target="_blank">etsy shop.</a> <br />

Hi all! I know it has been an awfully long time since I've posted, about a year and a half. There have been quite a few reasons that I haven't posted. I won't go into detail at the moment but primarily schoolwork and my job has kept me extremely occupied even with my home life, and I anticipate the upcoming fall semester will have no shortage of busyness. So while I have a bit of free time to post, I am going to try to take advantage of it. But you all didn't come here to hear me ramble I know!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It seems like every time I get onto Instagram or Pinterest I come across something cute related to pineapples. I have been into digitizing embroidery lately, so I decided to join in on the fun. This morning I made this pineapple buttonhole design and am now sharing it with you sweeties.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As I mentioned before the jump, I am making this design available for free right <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/7ci5f6bxivnzuhu/pineapple%20buttonhole.zip?dl=0" target="_blank">HERE</a>. I have uploaded formats DST, PES, SEW, JEF, HUS, XXX, and EXP in a zipped file. I have already tested the design, and it stitches out very well. It has only two color changes: Color 1 should be green for the leaves and Color 2 should be yellow for the body of the fruit. I think the colors will display differently on different machines. The entire height is 1.75 inches with a 0.90 inch width. The height of the buttonhole itself is 0.50 inch. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wouldn't this little design look sweet on a child's romper or tunic?</div>

I ask that you do not sell, give away, share, reproduce, combine with other designs to sell, or alter in any form my design. You may sell, give away, or donate items made with this design. You may share the link with others for individual downloads.<br />

If you have any questions about the design, feel free to email me at lani5287[at]yahoo[dot]com. I have been working on many designs here lately and even some bags that I hope to have in my shop soon.Lanihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09247434937220589048noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8644185080284095260.post-37797378939746604602013-12-24T12:01:00.002-06:002013-12-24T12:19:39.279-06:00Merry Christmas!Oh my goodness!! This has been quite a few past months. I have been so busy with school that I have barely had any time for much else. I am so glad the semester is over, and I have a few weeks break before going back.<br />
<br />
Let me just say how I have MISSED you all and blogging. I didn't expect to stray away for so long. Unfortunately, to cram as much school work in as possible I have to be a tad bit more disciplined toward it.<br />
<br />
Are you all ready for Christmas? I can't believe that it is almost here. Seriously, only a day away!! I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be.<br />
<br />
So I have been working a few items for after the holidays. I didn't get it ready in time for Christmas, but I think this break between semesters is a great time to catch up on my designing and sewing. My sewing mood changes <strike>a little too</strike> quite frequently <strike>and honestly it drives me nuts</strike> and so I have to do things when the mood strikes me. So lately I have been dabbling in all sorts of things. But the most recent endeavors has included lots and lots of felt....<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
So I have been working on a collection of animal felt dolls. This has been so fun to sit down and design and sew little animals. Little Miss has even helped out with stuffing and picking out tight and dress fabrics.<br />

One of the most fun parts of making these is actually designing dresses to go on them. No two dresses I have made have been alike. Some have shell tucks, some have ruffles, and some have funnel necks. I am trying to get a start on making these now because I will be offering them for sale in my <strike>poor, neglected</strike> <a href="http://www.createbylani.etsy.com/" target="_blank">etsy shop</a> after the holidays before going back to class.</div>

Instead I have been constantly on my computer typing and studying. So that leaves lots of time to make documents that are sewing-related, right? Right!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm_cyOIO0dNDWrZm5TOiiIpcEYvt58-MkrdHB4AHSHK8xf4PgVfrnJ-ms0Ajnk_QdNPdhSJL3CdPvdcDIMDB7oBNgTBHcBq5wBseYZSdMxocU9Q-a9jPYFE781zozHtP86JYEp6PYfHlQ/s1600/Sewing+Plans.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm_cyOIO0dNDWrZm5TOiiIpcEYvt58-MkrdHB4AHSHK8xf4PgVfrnJ-ms0Ajnk_QdNPdhSJL3CdPvdcDIMDB7oBNgTBHcBq5wBseYZSdMxocU9Q-a9jPYFE781zozHtP86JYEp6PYfHlQ/s640/Sewing+Plans.jpg" width="555" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So here you go! Another printable to help you stay organized. (Notice I didn't say help me get or stay organized here...I think you get the picture!) I know there are people (I am not one of them) who enjoy planning out their next sewing project. I want to be more of a planner and less of an impulse sewer. I was inspired by <a href="http://blog.lulalouise.com/" target="_blank">Lula Louise</a> and her fantastic sewing plans and thought how awesome it would be to incorporate that process into a notebook-type deal.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
So here are the deets:</div>
-It's a printable (obviously!) that has a large rectangle for sketching or drawing out your design, if you so choose, or attaching a pattern envelope snippet. That choice is totally up to you, whatever you decide to enter into that box.<br />
-It also has a smaller square to attach fabric swatches. Underneath that box is a notes section for explaining your fabric in detail.<br />
-There is a line for your pattern or design name. If you are designing something yourself, then you can just write a brief description of your design.<br />
-Secondly you have a "Materials Needed" section. This can include the fabric yardages and trims.<br />
-Next is the "Embellishments" portions. You can add trims, buttons, beads, lace, and other components here.<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
-Lastly is the "Notes" section. That is totally your baby there. If you want to include techniques or things you added or changed that is totally up to you.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Download it<strong><span style="color: blue;"> </span></strong><a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/cyt9uz05v748npw/Sewing%20Plans%20Printable.pdf" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color: blue;">here</span></strong>.</a> I hope you enjoy the printable. Let me know how it works out.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br />
Hi, lovelies! Oh my!!! It's been such an awfully long time since I've had time to blog. I've wanted to, trust me. I started back classes this fall at Auburn University after being out of school for 2 long years, and boy! is it an adjustment. This college is so much bigger than the one I attended last. With that being said, I haven't had much time to really do anything that I like concerning crafting or blogging because I'm usually always studying.<br />
<br />
<br />
I have a textile class that I am in love with. I had a project in there that dealt with making a swatch kit, and it got me to thinking about fabric organization (and how I really need to do some!) Then I thought about how for years I had been wanting to do a fabric organization binder myself. Obviously, I never got around to it. Anyway, I sat down and created a fabric swatch sheet printable and I wanted to offer it. It's away to say that I'm sorry that I've been gone for so long and that I really do miss you!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqzgYmZhy9eAzJODkWYI2Wr66daltc4Pgyx5_qgNEEpd1qGXTiZL7MDhhLultryVkl1z5uBxL7mXtpooO6R3LK9HLJRcS8TLD0N4wmXA6SvqM3JMcO-mfALI0E1ObuN8KKlVGO9708u3I/s1600/Fabric+Swatch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqzgYmZhy9eAzJODkWYI2Wr66daltc4Pgyx5_qgNEEpd1qGXTiZL7MDhhLultryVkl1z5uBxL7mXtpooO6R3LK9HLJRcS8TLD0N4wmXA6SvqM3JMcO-mfALI0E1ObuN8KKlVGO9708u3I/s640/Fabric+Swatch.jpg" width="483" /></a></div>
<br />
It's nothing very special, and I'm sure there are tons out there that look much better than what I can offer. However, this is something that I've really been wanting to do, and so here it is!<br />
<br />
It features three places for swatches with fields like Fabric/Design Name, Content, Amount, and Notes. The swatch square is approximately 2" by 2". There is also an "Ideas" section at the bottom, in case you like to group together fabrics that are similar in colors or styles.<br />

<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sqcutwwBDLY/UeRydQNcMOI/AAAAAAAAFSE/_EenjNUIDjo/s1600/SAM_1778.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sqcutwwBDLY/UeRydQNcMOI/AAAAAAAAFSE/_EenjNUIDjo/s640/SAM_1778.JPG" width="418" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Let me start off by reiterating that I am not a quilter, nor do I have the desire to be like the great many of you who are. I applaud and adore your works and dedication to the craft. It takes sheer talent to quilt. I had to preface this post with that notice in the event you look at how wonky this quilt is and thought that I was trying to pass as a quilter. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I promised little miss that I would make us a picnic blanket and renew our picnic basket so that we could go to the park and enjoy, well, a picnic. Well I got one portion done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I started this quilt probably a couple of weeks ago and have been working ever so diligently on it until I finished a couple of days ago. It finally cleared up long enough for me to snap a few shots (only to start to rain after I started editing photos.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RhnYx-3jXBA/UeRy-vav6-I/AAAAAAAAFSM/kjl9O250AnY/s1600/SAM_1781.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RhnYx-3jXBA/UeRy-vav6-I/AAAAAAAAFSM/kjl9O250AnY/s640/SAM_1781.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AZ2pWg1FAws/UeRzRb-8u0I/AAAAAAAAFSU/cmFmG3d4TH0/s1600/SAM_1782.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AZ2pWg1FAws/UeRzRb-8u0I/AAAAAAAAFSU/cmFmG3d4TH0/s640/SAM_1782.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I really wanted to try my hand at quilting before I completely wrote it off. My dad's mom quilts and my mother's grandmother quilts, so quilting is in my bloodline (I think.) I went for this rainbow-effect chevron (or zigzag) quilt. The whole thing came together by accident. I had a bunch of scraps in the zigzag fabrics and none in the contrasting strips. After I formed zigzags in blue, yellow, and pink, I noticed that it wasn't going to be nearly long enough. I, then, pulled out a lime green gingham to place between the blue and yellow. After cutting the gingham to size, I realized that I had a ton of striped vintage sheets in all sorts of colors and that I should just use those instead. So I pulled out green, purple, orange, and pink striped sheets and went to work.<br />
<br />
The hardest thing about quilting this blanket was keeping everything together and out of the way at the same time. I surely worked my arms to maneuver it. Because the triangles were cut on the bias and the striped strips weren't, the stripes were slightly gathered when quilted. <br />
<br />
It is backed with a pretty little floral that I picked up from the thrift store last week. I purchased the fitted and flat sheet in the nice print and used the fitted for the quilt. I used a scrap of watercolor floral print to bind it with.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nzhXYpnM2fw/UeRz5qoRTLI/AAAAAAAAFSg/YBmOyms_Gzc/s1600/SAM_1783.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nzhXYpnM2fw/UeRz5qoRTLI/AAAAAAAAFSg/YBmOyms_Gzc/s640/SAM_1783.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XGNlOgXSp6w/UeR1xQwijeI/AAAAAAAAFS4/wgRg4jylM4Y/s1600/SAM_1784.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XGNlOgXSp6w/UeR1xQwijeI/AAAAAAAAFS4/wgRg4jylM4Y/s640/SAM_1784.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VXi--nOM9qM/UeR1y-DIpTI/AAAAAAAAFTA/xxmVFvRoo-s/s1600/SAM_1785.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="451" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VXi--nOM9qM/UeR1y-DIpTI/AAAAAAAAFTA/xxmVFvRoo-s/s640/SAM_1785.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Just for the sake of it, I whipped up a little quilted resting pillow as well. I plan on making one more so we can travel with the blankets and pillows. The backing to the pillow is a brand new sheet that I found a couple of years ago. It was still in the package when I bought it from the thrift store. It's still very very stiff. I just love the crispness and boldness in the colors.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ctSm4YHi7SU/UeR1sj7xZ6I/AAAAAAAAFSw/8CQh7UIN04c/s1600/SAM_1786.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ctSm4YHi7SU/UeR1sj7xZ6I/AAAAAAAAFSw/8CQh7UIN04c/s640/SAM_1786.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now all I have to do is make pretty the picnic basket and wait for it to stop raining sometime soon, so we can have a nice lunch. I can't wait to try more quilting!!</div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OXCoPwNxK-w/UeRc4mhv5EI/AAAAAAAAFR0/3PvANQLCf3M/s1600/SAM_1777.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OXCoPwNxK-w/UeRc4mhv5EI/AAAAAAAAFR0/3PvANQLCf3M/s400/SAM_1777.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I typically make my own mailers for when I ship packages to my customers. I like making them myself because 1) they are inexpensive, 2)they are totally customizable, and 3) they are always readily available. I whipped up a little tutorial to demonstrate my process.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Let's go!</div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bJQUEbKrwPo/UeRZOslo8PI/AAAAAAAAFQI/5w14zu4n_TA/s1600/SAM_1760.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="277" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bJQUEbKrwPo/UeRZOslo8PI/AAAAAAAAFQI/5w14zu4n_TA/s400/SAM_1760.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Gather your materials. You will need:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>a piece of cardstock - 8.5" x 11" is fine</li>
<li>adhesive runner or double-sided tape</li>
<li>scissors, craft knife or rotary cutter</li>
<li>washi tape or decorative tape, optional</li>
<li>paper cutter with scorer blade, optional</li>
</ul>
A little note about the paper I used: to get fully customizable prints, just run your paper through your copier. I scanned a piece of a vintage sheet and ran a piece of kraft paper cardstock through the copier to get the printed paper that I have. It works well with other papers, fabrics, or a collection of found objects. This is especially useful if you can't find the particular paper you are looking for.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_R60yhxeTvU/UeRaAwJOV4I/AAAAAAAAFQU/pESqnaIpNXw/s1600/SAM_1763.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_R60yhxeTvU/UeRaAwJOV4I/AAAAAAAAFQU/pESqnaIpNXw/s400/SAM_1763.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lay your paper horizontally. If you have a printed side, make sure you lay it face down. I only placed mine printed side up to show you the orientation.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WbS_4VjelMY/UeRaZDHdEDI/AAAAAAAAFQc/xMYOESQ7vmY/s1600/SAM_1764.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WbS_4VjelMY/UeRaZDHdEDI/AAAAAAAAFQc/xMYOESQ7vmY/s400/SAM_1764.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fold over your edges to the middle. These do not have to be equal thirds. You just need to overlap the edges half an inch to an inch. Like so:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M2Nhh0n3fYM/UeRa1Iye4eI/AAAAAAAAFQk/VX5UR4aMSic/s1600/SAM_1765.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M2Nhh0n3fYM/UeRa1Iye4eI/AAAAAAAAFQk/VX5UR4aMSic/s320/SAM_1765.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">You can have your seam meet exactly in the middle if you like. That is totally your preference.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikBOU1UO_nijQR89aS1Tw3IxdmJmf03aHDfBB2OJxmbYJZTijCQU8U9e209UJlyrcOaTyv_oxS7cA-vAo1LjxUA7GcDaOXqtXuqtLoHB9j-V5fj7SI5t-SYLjf-SUXnSiaK_PReQ3UpJ0/s1600/SAM_1766.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikBOU1UO_nijQR89aS1Tw3IxdmJmf03aHDfBB2OJxmbYJZTijCQU8U9e209UJlyrcOaTyv_oxS7cA-vAo1LjxUA7GcDaOXqtXuqtLoHB9j-V5fj7SI5t-SYLjf-SUXnSiaK_PReQ3UpJ0/s400/SAM_1766.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Open your paper back up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cxLv86pvUF8/UeRbTXXXS0I/AAAAAAAAFQ0/JE4OThxRPV0/s1600/SAM_1767.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cxLv86pvUF8/UeRbTXXXS0I/AAAAAAAAFQ0/JE4OThxRPV0/s400/SAM_1767.JPG" width="366" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This step you can either do by hand or with your paper scorer. Along the horizontal edges, crease them about half an inch. This will create your top and bottom flaps for closure.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You should now have something like this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k2RoLRvdAf8/UeRbqWqTCGI/AAAAAAAAFRE/_6tErh7tpd0/s1600/SAM_1769.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k2RoLRvdAf8/UeRbqWqTCGI/AAAAAAAAFRE/_6tErh7tpd0/s320/SAM_1769.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LFrzWnTuBZw/UeRbw_tiXTI/AAAAAAAAFRM/ABcwLWPinjw/s1600/SAM_1770.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LFrzWnTuBZw/UeRbw_tiXTI/AAAAAAAAFRM/ABcwLWPinjw/s400/SAM_1770.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now cut off the top and bottom right and left flaps. This should leave you with center tabs at the top and bottom. Angle the edges or round them if you like.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZmhQry82M6M/UeRb4gk1CZI/AAAAAAAAFRU/tSVUqT10CUw/s1600/SAM_1771.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZmhQry82M6M/UeRb4gk1CZI/AAAAAAAAFRU/tSVUqT10CUw/s400/SAM_1771.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Run glue across the bottom flap and press into the mailer's body, covering the seam. You can add washi tape across the bottom for a decorative appeal. Now you can embellish and adorn it with stamps, tapes, stickers, whatever your hear desires! Just fill it, address it, seal it with some tape, and stamp it!</div>

I should really do my homework concerning this whole transition of blog feed. <br />
<br />
I hardly ever look on Google Reader as is. I typically just go to my dashboard and catch up day to day. However I did join Bloglovin' a couple of months ago. From what I have seen, I like so far. I rarely get onto it. So if have Bloglovin' and you feel so inclined, <a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/3380081/?claim=unaug52e662">Follow my blog with Bloglovin!</a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/en/blog/3380081" title="Follow create. on Bloglovin"><img alt="Follow on Bloglovin" border="0" src="http://www.bloglovin.com/widget/bilder/widget_fashion.gif?id=3380081" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have even added a button for it on the sidebar. It is the last button with the "b" and heart on it. Now I'm off to go play around with the new blog feed website! See you there!</div>

<br /></div>
<div>
Here's my effort to ward you away from making these same terrible mistakes. These are in no particular order.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw5tiHuAqxSS6_K8sSQGCH6cYF8i6HZgjfwP1-qT_dVodvWLrMl1xzGbLMP9UkHhbB6vXv69k3YhIj1pmMqkkZBSbfBy6dWCCjkmnUE5n6GR94mBdqN3bD_pPb-BfYLtVO0AmAi6D-VF0/s1600/Bad+Habits2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="350" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw5tiHuAqxSS6_K8sSQGCH6cYF8i6HZgjfwP1-qT_dVodvWLrMl1xzGbLMP9UkHhbB6vXv69k3YhIj1pmMqkkZBSbfBy6dWCCjkmnUE5n6GR94mBdqN3bD_pPb-BfYLtVO0AmAi6D-VF0/s400/Bad+Habits2.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>1. Not pre-washing</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I am terrible for not pre-washing my fabrics. I think because I feel like I cut my patterns big enough that I have room for error. WRONG! Especially since I sew with knits a lot, not just knits but cotton knits. I really want to do better about that.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>2. Not buying enough fabric</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
You know how sometimes you are at the fabric store, and you really see a gorgeous fabric. Then you think to yourself, "Hmm, I'd really like to get some of that to put in the stash," not really having a particular idea for it. Then you only purchase a yard, take it home and put it up, and come across it months later wishing to make a shirt. Only you realize you don't have enough to make a blouse. Yeah that's typically me! I realize that I hoard fabric, but I will get the gumption to sew garments a lot. I don't typically have any plans when I buy fabric; and if I do have plans, they are pretty general (i.e.: shirt, shorts, pants instead of pleated yoke shirt.)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>3. Not fitting throughout sewing</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I will be so wrapped up in my sewing and trying to get things finished that oftentimes I will sew straight through, not taking heed to fitting. This has landed many a project into the trash. Or donated. This is not always the case. I think I am self-correcting this bad habit. I have found myself trying on things even if it only has the front and half of the back.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>4. Restarting UFOs months after beginning</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I recently did this. The downside to this is that you usually forget which way pattern pieces go... or lose a couple of pieces (maybe.) The upside is you get plenty of wrist exercise from ripping seams about three times back to back. And not just ripping basting seams. No; that's for sissies. I mean ripping small straight seams and tight overlocked seams. That's the fun stuff! (You would figure I had learned the first time...)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>5. Not taking notes of technique or changes</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This tip slightly falls in line with the previous one. Had I taken notes of my self-drafted garment and had said notes been placed somewhere easily retrieved, then I would not have kept stitching the upper back portion upside down and to the wrong side over and over again. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>6. </b></span><b style="font-size: x-large;">Not pinning liberally</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I believe this speaks for itself. I don't like to pin. Period. I don't like pinning chiffon. I don't like pinning cotton. I don't like pinning jersey. I don't like pinning charmeuse. I don't like pinning zippers. I don't like pinning gathers/ruffles. I don't like pinning anything. There are times when I can get away with not pinning. And there are times when I cannot; I typically learn this the hard way. You would think with my disdain for pinning that my walking foot is constantly attached to my machine, but it is not.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>7. Not always using proper equipment</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have an amazing abundance of presser feet, mostly because I've had a few sewing machines (of 2 I still own) and I keep the feet. Not only have I acquired them that way, but I purchase feet that I think that I will need (and feet that I don't think I will need *don't judge*.) In addition to a plethora of presser feet I <strike>hoard</strike> have tons of sewing needles. I have even recently obtained a winged needle and a triple needle. With all this being said, I can count on one hand the amount of times I've used some of those feet. I haven't even used the triple needle and I've had it well over a year. Instead of trying to take shortcuts and do it the "simple" way, I should just simplify my life by using the proper tool. For example instead of measuring a hem, I should just use one of the various hemmers that I have. I have them ranging from a narrow hem to 7/8" hem yet I seldom bother to use them. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>8. Not making a muslin</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you ask me this one pretty much sums up all of them. This is probably my biggest fault. I have ruined so much fabric from not making a muslin. I am definitely learning to cover this ground before I go and ruin some fabric that I won't ever see on sale again. Not only for the sake of the fabric, but this serves to figure adjustment issues which is something I'm constantly doing. I like my shirts pretty long not necessarily tunic length, but I do like the top of my behind covered. I typically have to make patterns that are kind of lengthy.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>9. Not finishing seams</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This issue doesn't agitate me as much as the others. I have yet to find my niche with finishing seams. I mean I always overcast them, but I don't know if I should do it after sewing a seam or once the whole article is finished. So I just don't... When I know the piece will be ready to wear when I'm done, then I'll take the time out to finish them. However, if I'm stitching up something quick for demonstrative purposes, I won't (and then it falls apart.)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>10. Not using interfacing</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Y'know that interfacing stuff is a wonderful wonderful thing! Why I fail to locate it for facings and plackets is beyond my mind's capacity. I truly believe it serves its amazing purpose. Deep down in my heart I know it; however my mind, heart, and hands don't always agree. My heart says I should interface; my mind says maybe I should, maybe I shouldn't; and my hands are so confused that they just keep on sewing. It doesn't just simply facings, but it also makes those difficult-to-sew slippery fabrics a breeze to sew.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm not claiming to be this miraculous expert in sewing. Heck if you read that list, you're probably wondering if I can even sew at all, lol. I would just like to save you from botching up your own garment sewing and save you some money. Let me tell you purchasing the same fabric for the same pair of pants is not fun. Far from it even. I hope you can gain something from my list of bad habits (that I may or may not be trying to break), even if it's nothing more than you getting a couple of chuckles from my crazy slip-ups and brain farts. It happens to us all.</div>

I've made or done something creative nearly everyday this week. I've been working on lots of things for my daughter; and though some things are finished, there are still some wips left to knock out. I updated my blog a bit. I hope you all like the way it looks now. I feel it is a tad fresher and represents me more. <br />
<br />
Well today I have for you two articles of clothing: one being a pencil skirt and the other being a cardigan. Let's start with the skirt.( I must warn you; there are a ton of photos.)<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />

<br />

<br />
I've been meaning to make Kels a sailor-inspired pencil skirt for quite some time. I had this navy stripe jersey fabric that I had thrifted a while ago. (I have actually used it before and was going to do a tutorial with the fabric but it's just honestly a horrible fabric. It doesn't stretch a whole lot because the navy is printed onto the fabric as opposed to woven in, and the ink restricts the natural stretch of the knit.) Well I didn't want to throw it away because of my fiasco with the fabric, so I thought it had just enough stretch for her tiny self.<br />
<br />
I simply sketched out a skirt pattern to her measurements and tapered inward at the bottom. Then I made a shaped waistband. I really wanted to make this cute waistband for her. I thought it would look really cute on a child, especially paired with a buttondown white shirt. I added elastic in the back of the waistband, so it would fit her.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I meant to add belt loops to the skirt, but it slipped my mind to do so. I think it works out fine, though. It looks good either way to me. I added some contrasting detail with the front of the waistband by turning the stripe sideways. (Don't worry that was completely intentional, lol!) I'm so surprised it turned out so well. I think she looks so grown up (tear...)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also made an open cardigan. It's based off of <a href="http://www.craftinessisnotoptional.com/2013/06/slouchy-cardigan-tutorial.html">CINO's Slouchy Cardy Tute</a>. I looked out how she altered her pattern and took it from there. I love how she made hers open without the need for ties and buttons. I figured that was perfect for Little Miss because she is very hot-natured but occasionally does get cool. The fabric is a floral interlock from Jo-Ann fabrics. I trimmed it in a light pink interlock. I had bought these (among other things) in a shopping trip we went on Monday, in which I spent a ridiculous amount of money (even though it was all 50% off.) The interlock is a little thicker than I would have liked; but since there was no jersey knit available, I snatched up this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I love how sweet the little roses are on the fabric. Ordinarily I wouldn't dress her in brown for fear it'll wash her out, but this being, trimmed in pink and sporting a print, will suffice nicely. I love it with the belt; it's so sophisticated for her.</div>

It's comfortable enough, but it could be a little bigger for my taste. Being that it is on the tad cramped side, it doesn't leave much room for storage. And honestly I have entirely too much stuff (shoes, clothes, fabric) to have packed in here.<br />
<br />
My daughter's room is right across from mine; and in our makeshift "hallway" which really isn't, there is an alcove that is about a foot and a half deep and three feet wide. I figured if I couldn't annex some space, then I should go vertical. That's just what I did.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i--Jc-UnYDQ/UbZyfJ9qTSI/AAAAAAAAFFs/ExdNwVbiB2I/s1600/13+-+1" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="322" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i--Jc-UnYDQ/UbZyfJ9qTSI/AAAAAAAAFFs/ExdNwVbiB2I/s400/13+-+1" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I purchased six wall brackets from Lowe's and three melamine shelves from Home Depot. The shelves were a pretty tight fit alone without the brackets. I ended up trimming the depth an inch or so so that it wouldn't butt up against the trim in the corners. I anchored it all to the wall, but I didn't secure the shelves to the brackets. Part of that was because I was eager to get my vintage linens in place; the other part was because the shelves were already a tight fit, I didn't feel like they would slip anywhere. I probably will eventually screw them into the supports though. The shelves are uneven in height, but that's not something with which I'm terribly concerned. At this point it was more about functionality than aesthetics.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1Ct2v6RvHzI/UbZ0RBNsdsI/AAAAAAAAFGA/mvEs_KyCqvg/s1600/SAM_1693.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1Ct2v6RvHzI/UbZ0RBNsdsI/AAAAAAAAFGA/mvEs_KyCqvg/s640/SAM_1693.JPG" width="377" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was amazed at how much each shelf could fit. I was able to get two rows on each shelf and at least three columns as you can see. I've placed most of my vintage sheets (at least the ones I could find), a few vintage pillowcases that are in my home (most are still at my parents'), and few of my vintage sewing and modern sewing books (again the majority of those are at my parents' home.) I have a mini shelving unit that used to be my sewing table that I'm going to store underneath and house my vintage pillowcases or solid color fabrics.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-umUTf5onx24/UbZzsxIBgxI/AAAAAAAAFF4/V0KfzXxHyVU/s1600/SAM_1692.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-umUTf5onx24/UbZzsxIBgxI/AAAAAAAAFF4/V0KfzXxHyVU/s320/SAM_1692.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I packed them as tightly as I could toward the ceiling, and I tried to order them by color. For the most part I succeeded, however I should have ordered them by color before I placed them in their spots because I misplaced a few colors. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V5FpVDktlS8/UbZ08fXQfVI/AAAAAAAAFGQ/G9NSMKrrZ1I/s1600/SAM_1696.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V5FpVDktlS8/UbZ08fXQfVI/AAAAAAAAFGQ/G9NSMKrrZ1I/s400/SAM_1696.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm not sure if you can tell how deep it is by this photo but it's pretty deep. These shelves cut down my space by half compared to the bookcase I had them sitting in. I considered wrapping them around mini bolts but thought about the fact that most of these sheets are still whole. I think that would probably take up more space than this option.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S560ZalWfVw/UbZ0rvPmTzI/AAAAAAAAFGI/WCglpO2_VRk/s1600/SAM_1695.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S560ZalWfVw/UbZ0rvPmTzI/AAAAAAAAFGI/WCglpO2_VRk/s400/SAM_1695.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few of my pillowcases sit on the shelf as well. I honestly don't know why I really have pillowcases. I don't bother to use them as much, only when I find a pillowcase in a print that I don't already have in a sheet. I sometimes use them for skirts, dresses, or really small projects that I don't want to cut into a big sheet for. Also when I buy sheets sometimes they come as a set with the pillowcases.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Lx3uOT66SCI/UbZ1toGbQMI/AAAAAAAAFGY/Xclv1-T4o3A/s1600/SAM_1694.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Lx3uOT66SCI/UbZ1toGbQMI/AAAAAAAAFGY/Xclv1-T4o3A/s400/SAM_1694.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also placed a few of my vintage sewing books on the bottom shelf. I actually like how they look gathered together. I have way more than this collection here. Like vintage sheets, vintage sewing books are my weakness as well. I can barely ever pass up a good one, especially a vintage Better Homes & Gardens book. They are by far my favorite. I have two Singer Sewing Books. I think one is just about warn to pieces and the other has its original dust jacket. I also have some of my modern sewing books nestled up in the nook. I like these just as much because whereas vintage books teach about technique and overall knowledge, modern books teach different projects and ideas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Let's see how long this stays this nice and neat!! This will be the last time that the colors look this organized because once I start playing with the fabrics, there is no telling what order it will be in. Hopefully I can at least remember to put everything back on to these shelves once I'm done using the sheets. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
How do you organize your sheets? I would love to see! Please leave a link so I can what you do to organize your sheets and maybe get even better ideas!</div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MKrp1U9254g/UbPNDSdUMDI/AAAAAAAAFFE/riBFSk7S3pc/s1600/SAM_1676.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MKrp1U9254g/UbPNDSdUMDI/AAAAAAAAFFE/riBFSk7S3pc/s640/SAM_1676.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
You may not know this, but I'm not a fan of strapless and much less a fan of halter tops especially for my little girl. I did, however, want to make a top (or dress) that was in some way crafted with her back out so that she wouldn't get so hot in the summer. I took some inspiration from the open-back dresses that have been popping up EVERYWHERE and crafted this little open-back number for her.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mZUKbAkqlZc/UbPNA3eZJ5I/AAAAAAAAFE0/E1sYNoF2gtE/s1600/SAM_1678.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="325" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mZUKbAkqlZc/UbPNA3eZJ5I/AAAAAAAAFE0/E1sYNoF2gtE/s400/SAM_1678.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used a basic A-line pattern that I had whipped up for her and just adjusted it (no pun intended) to the style that I wanted. The front is a basic A-line with a Peter Pan collar added to it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The back is where all the magic happens. It has a vintage button closure with an elasticized waist and flares out. It has a curved triangle "cut out" portion that allows a breeze to blow up her back in case she becomes overheated.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-spwegmn2Wqo/UbPM8cCqVAI/AAAAAAAAFEU/uiVsEYOmDaA/s1600/SAM_1682.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-spwegmn2Wqo/UbPM8cCqVAI/AAAAAAAAFEU/uiVsEYOmDaA/s400/SAM_1682.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I lined it with a lime and ivory polka dot cotton and used some vintage avocado hem facing to hem the bottom of the shirt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kJ3vjhFgaXI/UbPM9ajcSRI/AAAAAAAAFEc/QJqdED5Pr3U/s1600/SAM_1681.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kJ3vjhFgaXI/UbPM9ajcSRI/AAAAAAAAFEc/QJqdED5Pr3U/s320/SAM_1681.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also used some vintage bias tape and vintage piping. Here's a funny thing about the piping that I used: it was so old that the package stated that the color was white; but when I opened it to use it, the piping was a shade darker than the cream colored fabric that I was using. At least it was in the same color family.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Speaking of vintage trims...Does anyone have a hard time ripping open a package of "new" vintage tape? It just about hurts my feelings every time I have open that cellophane package. But then again if I didn't buy it to use it, what did I buy it for, right?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
She gave my just enough cooperation to get the pictures done. When we first started, I was able to get one picture before my camera died. After getting it charged, she said, "We only need one more picture, right?" Poor thing wanted to get back to enjoying her bike riding. Who could blame her with an evening as beautiful and mild as tonight's? So I snapped as few decent pictures as I could get <strike>after threatening that I would find another adorable model to make clothes for and take pictures of</strike> and let her hop back to her bicycle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I immediately scooped it up. I saw a whole new potential to this gem. I called my mom and asked her if she could help me upcycle it, and the first thing out of her mouth was, "Are you trying to tell me something?!" So after calming her fears that I was/am not expecting another child, I explained to her that I wanted to take it from its current terrible state to this awesome vision I had for it.<br />
<br />
She never really did get around to helping me with it. That was totally fine by me because when I'm ready to start working on something, there is no stopping me until I finish.<br />
<br />
The whole process took longer and was harder work than I had anticipated. That's okay; I like a good challenge.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<br />
This is what it looked like before. It had all of the Masonite boards in it as well, but they were warped. I knew that I was going to be replacing the shelves as soon as I looked at it. I immediately thought fabric storage when I grabbed it, but somewhere between that moment and me purchasing materials it turned into a sewing table. <br />

I removed the shelves and supports. I then tightened up whatever hardware that needed it and sanded this baby down. This part when by fairly quickly. As much as I like the outcome of the top part of the table, I would never recommend anyone doing what I did. I found a quatrefoil design online and printed it out on the underside of contact paper. I cut out the negative spaces, adhered it to the board, traced with a pencil, and then moved the stencil until I complete traced it all across the board. After all that was done, I painted the spaces with the blue paint and some metallic gold acrylic paint that I had. This was painstakingly laborious. I had to go over it multiple times and sand down between coats because I had layered so much paint. I did all this with a teeny little art brush so that I wouldn't mess up entirely. After I finished the design, I went back over the white spaces. </div>

Pay attention to the gold paint <strike>not the terrible and sloppy paint job I did!</strike>. For a cheap acrylic paint, it did a fantastic job. It is very metallic-y like I wanted it to be. The gold accent was a spur of the moment idea that sparked up as I was almost finished painting the design. I think it works really well with the colors I used. It almost looks like gold leaf to me.</div>

I just listed some new items in <a href="http://createbylani.etsy.com/">my etsy shop</a> over Memorial Day. I added a bunch of phone clutches and earbud cases. I have more things to work on still so expect to see more things to appear in the shop. I am building some custom shelving in my apartment for my vintage sheet storage, so I have a ton of sheets that will be for sale either on etsy, my blog, or Instagram coming up soon.Lanihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09247434937220589048noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8644185080284095260.post-45459401034068973412013-05-28T16:05:00.000-05:002013-05-28T16:05:13.986-05:00Strawberry Lemon PopsI posted yesterday about <a href="http://lani5287.blogspot.com/2013/05/strawberry-mango-lemonade.html">Strawberry Mango Lemonade</a>. Today I'm bringing you another little summer treat idea. I recently made some fruit pops because I saw some freeze pop molds at the dollar store and figured I could give it a try for only $1. It's not like I wouldn't be getting any great use out of it. We have hot summers here.<br />
<br />
So I took to my trusty food processor (because my trusty blender isn't so trusty anymore now that it went ka-put). I used my combination of strawberries and lemons again.<br />

<br />
<br />
I chopped up a handful of strawberries, added some freshly squeezed lemon juice (one lemon is enough), and added a little water and honey all to my food processor. I blended it all until it was pureed smoothly. I then poured this mixture into my freeze pop mold, placed in the sticks, and froze them for hours.<br />
<br />
These things are soooooo good! All natural and super easy to make. I think I will try adding fruit juice the next time I make fruit pops. I'm definitely going to see how many different types of pops I can come up with before the end of summer!<br />

<br />If you follow me on <a href="http://instagram.com/lani5287">Instagram</a>, then you know that I have been on a bit of a natural food/beverage kick lately. I've made everything from smoothies to detox water to homemade limeades. I have made plain lemonade, but I wanted to have a drink with a little bit of a twist to it. So I made Strawberry Mango Lemonade. Here's how I did it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Qz2ecH14VYk/UaOl9VF-4uI/AAAAAAAAE2E/VckDSD1i3IU/s1600/100PHOTO3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Qz2ecH14VYk/UaOl9VF-4uI/AAAAAAAAE2E/VckDSD1i3IU/s400/100PHOTO3.jpg" width="400" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I roughly chopped up some strawberries and a mango. You could use frozen if you have it. I then put it in my food processor. Ordinarily I would puree it in my blender, but my blender decided to commit suicide not too long ago, therefore leaving me stuck with my food processor until I can get it fixed. If you need to, add a little bit of water to your fruit blend. Blend it as much as possible until it becomes uniform. Add this mixture to your pitcher. I used a regular quart-sized pitcher. Add water about three-quarters of the way full. I then juiced 3 lemons. I could have used one or two extra, but I like the flavor it has. Add a half cup to three-quarters cup of sugar. Fill the remainder of the pitcher with water. I topped it off with adding several lemon slices to the lemonade, so that when it chills the lemon-y flavor with infuse with the rest of the drink.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KN0PEmRl9tU/UaOpV81PE8I/AAAAAAAAE2Y/Z86Fl0TyqaQ/s1600/SAM_1628.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KN0PEmRl9tU/UaOpV81PE8I/AAAAAAAAE2Y/Z86Fl0TyqaQ/s320/SAM_1628.JPG" width="296" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wait until it gets cold for a couple of hours and then enjoy it on a nice, hot day as a cool and healthy refreshment!!</div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
I used scraps of vintage sheets, alternating in pink and blue scheme, and some vintage twill tape. The twill tape I found at an antique mall on a spool with hundreds and hundreds of yards on it. I ended up making the bunting with my embroidery machine because I was pressed for time. I layered felt and vintage fabric, embroidered the shape, monogrammed my lettering, cut them out, and strung them together with the tape. Such a cute little thing to make. It was very personal and intimate to have it hanging at my table. I'm building some new storage in my apartment for vintage sheets, and I'm thinking about hanging it from the shelving to make it feel more welcome. Or maybe right about my sewing machine. I'm still not quite sure yet.<br />
<br />
I wish that I had chosen a better choice of thread to use for the letters. By the way the banner spells "create." for the blog (of course!) I thought since the fabrics had the mutual color of kiwi green in them that the green I chose would have been perfect. The green ended up being to washed out and hardly noticeable. It kind of bummed me out a little. Next time I will have to make better contrasting decisions.<br />
<br />
Either way it goes, I'm fairly happy with the result. I thought about offering mini vintage sheet buntings in the shop with different sayings. Hmm, still toying with that idea....<br />

<br />
I totally forgot that I had attended a printmaking class at <a href="http://jcsm.auburn.edu/" target="_blank">Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art</a> last Thursday.<br />
<br />
It was part of their Spring Semester of free classes and happened to be the last class of the semester.<br />
<br />
<br />
It was such a fun event to go to. I love art museums, well museums in general. The instructor of the course is actually an art professor at Auburn University. He also had two of his pupils in there assisting the class.<br />

First, he schooled us on the history of printmaking. Secondly, he explained to us the materials that went into the process. Then, he roughly demonstrated the process. After all was said and done, he released us to create our own bits of art.<br />
<br />
It was so interesting to watch such an antiquated art form that has barely changed over the centuries be performed virtually the same way that it always has been. I'm also glad that we didn't have to do any of the inking with the oil-based ink (whew!). <br />
<br />
<br />
This is my own personal work. We used thin pieces of aluminum or tin to etch our drawings into. I have an affinity for drawing eyes and faces. If I can't think of anything else to draw, I will start sketching faces. I love the detail and expression you can have with portraits. I'm not super crazy about much of anything else. I couldn't think of anything to etch, so I just went for what I knew. <br />

<br />When I was waiting to get my block inked, a few ladies asked if I was an artist. I don't really consider myself an artist. I just like to draw and design. I've had enough formal training for it, so I guess I could be considered as one. The thing is most of my friends are extremely good at drawing and painting, and we don't really formally call each other artists. So needless to say, I replied that I dabble in drawing, nothing serious.<br />
<br />
The next semester they offer these classes I am definitely going to keep my eyes peeled so that I may sign up. I somehow always tend to miss the line up when it comes out. <br />

I have had the next few posts in the draft section for a while, as I am just now being to get it to cooperate. Thanks in advance for your understanding!**<br />
<br />
A friend of mine usually tells me about these little pop-up markets that we have downtown at one of the strips of boutiques. Last Friday night they decided to sort of randomly host one. It's held in front of a tattoo parlor, bead/jewelry shop, upscale restaurant, used bookstore/coffee shop, and recording studio. It's the one part of town that is geared towards the more artsy community.<br />
<br />
It was a perfect day for having the market. It didn't rain despite the rain chances we had. Nor was it deathly hot. The pop-up shop ran from 3 until 7. Great timing! There was just enough time to finish making more items, pick up Kelsey from school, and go home to finish preparing. We had gotten there about a half hour after it started.<br />
<br />
I whipped up a bunch of phone clutches and coin purses. I brought some wallets, card wallets, and card holders. I don't care how long you prepare for a craft show you will always feel like you aren't ready.<br />

I made myself a little bunting banner as well for a bit of signage. I made the mini buntings out of vintage sheets, and I embroidered "create." on each pennant. I made the pennants with my embroidery machine as well and stitched them together with some vintage twill tape. I really like the effect of it. </div>

They also had some nice entertainment. There was this gentleman who was a one-man band that did some nice covers for some oldies. He played the guitar and harmonica extremely well. That is one thing I do like about Auburn; when they have events, they commission local musicians. The musicians tend to be very folksy or soulful, just the music I like!!<br />

I'm finally going through the ones that I have at my home. I still need to get the tons more that I left at my parents' house. Bleh! I hate trying to decide which ones I want to keep versus what I don't. I have to keep reminding myself that I don't want my child(ren) to talk about me, though, if they have to have an estate sale after I'm dead. It's better to purge now than then I suppose.</p>
<p dir=ltr><b>E</b><b>njoy </b><b>your </b><b>Sunday!</b></p>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm very late with posting this for kcwc 2013. I made one other piece as well that I will post later. Anyway I whipped up this quick little blouse for my babes. I bought the fabric from my local quilt shop. It's Riley Blake's <a href="http://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=CEw4vOPCCUbCKIpHHsQe_2oDADuTomr4DzLii6Dfk9PHvxAEIBhAEKARQ_5Sl5f______AWDJpu6M5KTAE6ABkMHG-gPIAQeqBCdP0G6OIHYKz3DW-yWLu1YTbtVwLeM-U2yE1nK_Bo9vdMsJrTxCgFrABQWgBiaAB9i-uQXgEtT-oeCPlbKIIg&sig=AOD64_3gKkwXsrrvPAtYBk79Gr3iun4E8Q&ctype=5&rct=j&q=songbird+riley+blake+c2860&ved=0CJcBELsX&adurl=http://www.etsy.com/listing/104865569/song-bird-by-carina-gardner-for-riley%3Futm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dproduct_listing_promoted%26utm_campaign%3Dsupplies_low" target="_blank">Song Bird</a> by Carina Gardner. I paired it with a navy and white chevron and navy and aqua chevron both also by Riley Blake. I used the navy and aqua chevron to make bias tape for the arm holes and hem. Funny thing about the bias trim: I made just over 2.5 yards of it and just barely had enough of it. Fortunately I made it.</div>

<br />
I designed the shirt to be a bit A-line and a little of a tent blouse. I added a keyhole button and loop closure in the back. I embellished the front with multiple contrasting ruffles. I also added a bit of elastic to the sides to cinch in the bodice to keep it from being so balloony.<br />

Talk about your excitement!!!! I was super SUPER <b>SUPER</b> excited to see that. No kidding!!!! At any rate, what did you create for kcwc spring 2013? I hope you were more productive than I was!<br />

Where Have I Been? I have truly missed you guys something awful! I hadn't realized that it has been months since I've sat down and blogged. But I suppose it has. I didn't mean to go this long; honestly I didn't. I have been busy with volunteering, kindergarten, custom orders, and trying to get myself back into school. If you follow me on <a href="http://instagram.com/lani5287" target="_blank">Instagram</a>, then you have seen the custom orders and things that I have been making my way around. Not even including the barrage of emails I've encountered. But enough of this stuff! How have you been my darlings?!? I hope great.<br />
<br />
I've been working on phone clutches lately, and I'm really into them actually. I've had requests for monogrammed clutches. To tell you the truth, I didn't even think about it until a client of mine asked for it. So those options will be in the shop shortly. Here are some for example.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ACj2VFzqX3I/UXavHnBF-JI/AAAAAAAADRg/luinlkOKXbU/s1600/13+-+5" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ACj2VFzqX3I/UXavHnBF-JI/AAAAAAAADRg/luinlkOKXbU/s640/13+-+5" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fiQoSJHlR6g/UXWUl6bDh-I/AAAAAAAADRQ/rPC5AGE7no4/s1600/13+-+1" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fiQoSJHlR6g/UXWUl6bDh-I/AAAAAAAADRQ/rPC5AGE7no4/s640/13+-+1" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A couple of weeks ago I made a fabric purchase from <a href="http://www.fabricshack.com/" target="_blank">Fabric Shack</a>. I very rarely purchase designer fabrics online. I'm not sure why. I think it's because I'm a very tactile, visual person. I generally have to have things in my hand and see the true color of it to get my gears turning. Well, I decided to check on the website anyway in their sale-a-bration section and found some really darling fabrics for a really good price and not to mention the half price shipping they offer!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xw6EneA8EW8/UXWUl2lFTNI/AAAAAAAADQ4/nvAq3Ax9fb4/s1600/13+-+3" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xw6EneA8EW8/UXWUl2lFTNI/AAAAAAAADQ4/nvAq3Ax9fb4/s640/13+-+3" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I ended up with a bunch of new fabrics that I am in love with. One of the perks I'm noticing about shopping online for fabric is not only the vast variety (er, duh!) but the availability of stock and the prices are much cheaper than my local quilt shop. Because I live in a sort of small city, it takes awhile for trends to catch on out our shop; and when they finally do come in they tend to be very expensive there. Also it's hard to get a plethora of variety at our Singer shop, and I'm not the one to make special orders or requests for fabric. I definitely will be purchasing more designer fabrics online from here on out, especially from Fabric Shack. That bundle only cost me $3 to ship.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was in dire need of updated business/contact cards for my public outings and such. Besides that, my tastes have changed. So I sat down and created these fun, little jobs and printed them at home. I used some kraft cardstock that I had purchased at Hobby Lobby. I really like the look of anything natural like kraft paper and natural linen. I paired it with social media icons in Pantone's color of the year Emerald (which also is my birthstone. Today is my birthday. Yay!); I think natural colors and blues work so well together. That combination always makes me happy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kGMGDk9kA5M/UXWUlyjXQSI/AAAAAAAADQY/i5kWky8Ul8Q/s1600/13+-+1" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kGMGDk9kA5M/UXWUlyjXQSI/AAAAAAAADQY/i5kWky8Ul8Q/s400/13+-+1" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have more to show and tell but I have some photo editing to do before I can post. And let me send my deepest apologies for these horrible phone photos (the pictures are from Instagram) and being gone for so long. I promise to try to be back soon, mmkay?!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
