Thrifting 8.13.12

I haven't had myself a good thrift haul in a while. In fact I haven't been doing any serious thrifting lately. But today I decided to go check out my favorite Salvation Army since it moved to a different location. Can I just say that I am glad that I did?? I brought home some UH-MAZING vintage sheets and pillowcases and this super cool and super itchy leopard sweater that I am thinking about turning into a cardigan. I only spent $5.50 on everything.

I came home with two matching pillowcases and four sheets. I'm really in love with this selection. I think the last sheet may be a tablecloth instead. It's really thin and lightweight with serged hems.

I rarely get many large flower power items, so I was really ecstatic about scooping these up. 

This particular sheet makes me really really happy! Just look at that gorgeous hem with the scalloped trim. Everything about this sheet is perfect. I'm not one that goes for the faux patchwork look, but this one is right up my alley.

The flowers on this one are huge, about the size of my palm or bigger. I have a thing for mottled roses and cabbage roses on sheets. 

This one reminds me of the previous one. They are both by the same manufacturer, so I'm not sure if they are supposed to be a set. They didn't come together though. 

This is the softest, lightest piece of material. I'm really not sure if it's a sheet. Either way it goes it will be cut up into something beautiful. Just not sure what quite yet. And it does not have pesky hems to worry about. Yay!!

Thrifting 5.14.12

It seems I had the case of the blues Monday when I went to the thrift store. I managed to bring home 2 blue sheets, 1 blue pillowcase and a yellow sheet.

This was the pillowcase that I found.

I really like this sheet. It has wonderful yellows and mustards in it. I actually have this sheet in a different colorway. The one that I have already has yellow, red, and blue flowers in it.

This is another sheet that I have duplicates of in other colorways. I have this sheet in pink and yellow. I find the pink and yellow sheets like all the time. I have also found one blue pillowcase in this print.

This is one of my favorite sheets. I am so glad that I found another one because I was getting low on the one that I had.


I also got a few things last week that I have yet to share.

I absolutely love this sheet!!!! The border is just gorgeous. I think that I have a blue sheet in this print.

I love this yellow stripe. It has a few blemishes, but I think I can work around it though.

Thrifting 3.19.12

I went to Salvation for the first time in months, and boy am I glad I did! I happened to go when they were having a 50% off linens sale. I rarely get to catch those, and if I do they don't ever have anything worth bringing home. But yesterday I lucked up.
I brought home a total of 4 pillowcases and 6 sheets.


Some of these prints I already have but needed to restock or have a different colorway of the same print.



I love the green pillowcases; they are so bright and crisp. I have a sheet similar to the pink stripes but this pillowcase has never been used. It's still crisp.



I always manage to find green stripes no matter where I am. It's ok, though, because I'm running out of this print. I was glad to find those blue cabbage rose sheets. I love cabbage roses and I love blue. I have this sheet in a peachy color as well.



The sheet on the left has blue roses on it too. I didn't get nearly enough of the print in the shot. I have the sheet in the middle in yellow. It's by a Japanese designer (Hanoi?), I think. Can't remember at this moment. The sheet on the left is brand new too. Still very crisp and very bright! I have come across this sheets before. I wish I could find the pink colorway.

I only spent $3.75. The cashier asked me if I wanted to go back and get more to help them get rid of some of it. Lol. I think I left with plenty enough.

Thrifting 3.18.12

Yesterday I ventured over to Goodwill for a brief moment to see what linens I could find. I usually don't go there because a) they usually have a poor selection of vintage sheets and b) they tend to be a bit more expensive when I can find anything.

I did find a little something though. I ended up bringing home one sheet and three of the same pillowcase.



The item on the right is a sheet. I have this sheet but not nearly as vibrant as this one is. The pillowcases are on the left. I have a sheet in the same print but different colorway.

I'm glad I found these bright linens, just in time for Spring. Besides it's just so hard to find bright, colorful sheets that aren't mostly white.

Thrifting 3.17.12

I didn't get to thrift a lot today unfortunately. I had a lot of running around to do. However I did manage to squeeze in a few minutes at one of my favorite shops. The only thing I found worth bringing home was earrings. I found a few pairs. Actually I found five pairs but got charged for six pairs.


These beauties are my favorite! I can't believe they were just sitting there. Funny thing is I have been seeing similar earrings popping up on youtube and blogland. I'm so glad I snatched these.


These are pretty big screwback earrings. They are vintage Napier.


These are vintage Gay Boyer. I have never heard of this designer, but the designer seems to be pretty big. I like the 3D effect of these dome earrings. I'm thinking about painting them.


I absolutely adore these as well. These are vintage Napier too. I love the knotted texture.


This pair is also Napier. As you can see I love circular earrings. I love the texture of these too.

I am in love with vintage earrings. And these pairs satisfied my appetite. I'm thinking about turning some of them into rings. I'm definitely going to turn the clip-ons into studs. Going to go clean them now!

Thrifitng 1.28.12

I had a fairly decent haul yesterday of vintage linens. I am rather surprised. I found 5 sheets, 3 pillowcases, and a pair of lion head earrings. It felt good to bring home a decent-sized haul. Besides most of everything that I got was unlike anything that I have at home anyway.





Sheets

I thought this was a really pretty sheet. Reminds me of Bob Ross' landscapes.


I have been wanting this one for quite some time now.


I adore the sweet pink roses and the yellow dots in this. This reminds me of another sheet I have that have those soft pink watercolor roses in it.


This one and the next one are the same sheet just different colors. I really like the pointilistic trees that cover these sheets.


This sheet is brand new still in the packaging. Who doesn't love to find something still wrapped up in its original bag?!

Pillowcases

I love cabbage roses on sheets. And I love the orange/pink/coral color combo as well.


This pillowcase is brand new as well. It still has its original crispness and is startlingly white and with original creases from packaging. I have 2 king size cases in this print.


I don't know why I grabbed this. I have 2 sheets and a hand towel in this print, but I tend to use it a lot.



These earrings remind me of the 2 lion head belts that I thrifted previously. They are huge, therefore I had to grab them. The bigger the better for me. Now if they only had little rings in their mouths.....

Thrifting 1.9.12

Let me just say that I'm terribly disappointed with the lack of vintage sheets to be thrifted in this area. I haven't bought a sheet in weeks, and that's due to lack of enticing product. Maybe it will pick up soon. I hope so. I did, however, find a few sheets that I'm semi-proud of.





I really like the candy-striped sheet. I have all the other colors and now I have this one. I've got to wash them up and see what parts are salvageable. I think for the most part they look to be in fair condition.

Thrifting: Out with the New, In with the Old

Okay, okay... I know I said that wrong, but there's a reason for that. It's because I want to sbhow you the vintage items I got on the last day of the year and today, which techincally doesn't count as the first day of the year but it does as the first business day of the year here.

I didn't thrift that much for the fact that everything closed super early New Year's Eve and the drought of items that have been available to be thrifted. I even went to a thrift store that I rarely go into because I was hoping for something, anything!

Which leads me to my last thrifting purchase of 2011:





These ah-mazing leather woven Oxfords. Lemme tell you something: these are awesome!! I know some of you may look at these and wonder what the heck I'm looking at, but I find these just divine. I have been having a vintage loafer/oxford/boot craving, and any vintage shoe that I can get my paws on or something that faintly resembles it then I'm going to snatch it up! Besides that I {heart} Oxfords. The woven toe of these puppies will be nice come our hot-n-sticky summer time and they are broken in and comfy.
This is the fourth pair of shoes I have ever thrifted and all but one pair are genuine leather/suede. This is the second vintage pair... I have been wearing them since I got them home. They cost a whole 2 bucks.

First purchase of the New Year is (drum roll, puh-lease....)

Just a boh-ring vintage sheet. Well not really boring but not what I've been hunting for either. I don't have this lime and sunshine yellow stripe. I do have an avocado and harvest gold stripe, though. Not the same thing... Glad I found it though since I've been on this skirt-sewing kick. I did find another really pretty floral sheet with blues and reds and such. It didn't have a price on it and I didn't feel like hunting someone down for it. I'll go back for it later this week.

Thrifting 12.3.11

I haven't been thrifting in awhile. I've been trying to take some time off and just focus on home and such. I was anxious yesterday from all the ridiculous things that have happened throughout the week that I needed to get out and clear my head. So I ventured to the thrift shops. I read a horoscope once in a quilting magazine that Taurus (myself), when feeling low; anxious; in a bad mood, feel the need to be surrounded by fabric; touching it; running it through their fingers but not necessarily purchasing it. Whoever authored that article had no idea how true they really were. Whenever I feel like I'm going to wig-out, just the sight of fabric (or vintage sheets) calms my spirit. With that said let's get on to the small treasures I brought home.

I didn't find many sheets this go around, but I did find some things that I haven't seen before. I bought 2 sheets, 3 curtain panels, some yellow linen, some paisley silky dress fabric, and some yarn and knitting book for a swap partner's Christmas stocking.






This is the curtain panel. I found 3 of them bundled together. I thought they were pillowcases until I got them in the car. I realized they were curtain panels, EVEN BETTER. I had been coveting this one after seeing it on flickr many moons ago. So glad it's in my possession.


I love love love this one. I'm so happy to finally find a sheet with purple in it that is a floral. I never find purples. Well I've found some sheets a LONG time ago that were mostly blue with a few lilac sprigs here and there. But this one has more purple than any of those florals.


I also love this sheet. I actually have one just like it, but it is so cut up from previous sewing. The picture doesn't do it justice. It's the perfect shade of kiwi green, one of my favorite colors. I actually think I'm going to use this one on my bed since the elastic is still in tact and it matches all of my bedding. I'm so glad to have find it.


Lots of yellow linen. I'm not sure about yardage as I haven't even opened it up yet. I think there is at least a yard. I bought some mustard linen when I was in New York and have been reluctant to cut into it, so I think this is a wonderful practice piece.


This is some great fabric as well. I bought some navy and fabric similiar to it in Thrifting 9.9.11. It's very silky and has a woven pattern and a printed pattern almost like a Jacquard does. The paisley print on the front is much more intricate than the mottled image that shows through on the back. I sort of like the back a bit more.
