{Giveaway}

Here's the first giveaway of the year: a Kindle or e-reader cozy. I tailored it mostly to the dimensions of a Kindle because that is what I have, but I think most e-readers are similar in size.

It measures 6" wide by 8" long. It is padded, quilted, and fully lined with a secure snap fastner. None of the hardware is exposed as not to cause damage to your device. It is fashioned from bright Amy Butler and Free Spirit fabrics.

Surf-n-Turf Chowder

I felt compelled to cook today after my work-out. I really wanted to go out to eat but coersed myself to go home and make something quick, light, and healthy. So I grabbed a few ingredients that were already in the fridge and whipped up a chicken and shrimp chowder.

Ingredients
-8 oz package of cream cheese
-1 cup of milk
-1/2 cup water
-1/4 onion, chopped
-2 cloves garlic, chopped
-1/4 cup cooked chicken, shredded
-1/4 cup raw shrimp, peeled, deveined, & chopped
-1 cup frozen broccoli
-1 small can mushrooms (optional)
- Old Bay seasoning, lemon pepper, paprika, and black pepper (all to taste)
-pat of butter

Directions
Sprinkle seasonings on chicken, shrimp, garlic and onions. Sauté in pot over butter on medium heat. Cook until shrimp is done. Add milk and water to mixture then cream cheese, stirring occassionally. Fold in broccoli and mushrooms. Turn down heat to low-medium and let simmer for about 10 more minutes. Eat and enjoy!

This is such a quick little meal that can be cranked out at anytime and is easily adaptable. Add potatoes or take away shrimp. Customize it however your family likes it. To beef up chowder a little more, I always like to make a pot of linguine to spoon the chowder over.

New Kindle Cozy

Here's a little story: I went to our small, independently-owned Opelika Sewing Center Monday just to browse around. They are the only place in town that you can order designer fabrics. I grabbed a few bolts of fabric and headed to the cutting table, only to wait behind 3 freshman fashion design students that are clueless about what a sewing machine even really is. And on top of that I had to listen to the owners bicker with the cashier about what she was ringing up for the girls. Lucky in the midst of all that confusion and fussing I was able to get my fabric cut and rung up before the students were done, and I walked out of there with my Amy Butler and Free Spirit pieces.

I had no intention when I purchased the fabric. I bought it because I liked it. (Don't judge me, lol!) So it wasn't until hours later that an idea popped into my head and I started to work. I whipped up another Kindle cozy.

The outside is Amy Butler and the lining is Free Spirit. I forget the design patterns.

I quilted it for a more textured look and added a coordinted snap. It came together in no time after I wrestled with my iron.

Last night I started working on more. So be on the look out there will be a giveaway coming soon for a Kindle cozy!!

Thrifting 1.9.12

Let me just say that I'm terribly disappointed with the lack of vintage sheets to be thrifted in this area. I haven't bought a sheet in weeks, and that's due to lack of enticing product. Maybe it will pick up soon. I hope so. I did, however, find a few sheets that I'm semi-proud of.

I really like the candy-striped sheet. I have all the other colors and now I have this one. I've got to wash them up and see what parts are salvageable. I think for the most part they look to be in fair condition.

After I was done photographing, I noticed this:

I thought it was beautiful!

Trial Run #3: Elastic Waist Tunic

Today I brought another venture from my sewing table. This one is by far my favorite.
It has a slit in the collar, cuffed sleeves, and an elasticized waist. It makes my little girly look so grown up!

It was a nice day outside yesterday so we took action shots outside in the sunshine, soaking up some Vitamin D.

I can't wait to mmake a bunch of these!

A Day at the Park

I promised to Kelsey to the park today. I've been making a habit of trying to take her around to different parks often. Today I chose the Opelika Muncipal Park, dubbed the "Monkey Park." This place as been around a long time. I remember it being just as worn when I was her age going there.
